Sarah Winchester was a small woman, as mentioned earlier she lived alone. Many people who live alone have a smaller homes. The Winchester home concluded of 160 rooms, including 40 bedrooms, 2 ballrooms one completed and one unfinished. Forty Seven fireplaces, 10,000 window panes, 17 chimneys (with evidence of 2 others), two basements, and three elevators. Winchester's property was about 162 acres at one time, but now the estate is just 4.5 acres. (Wikipedia) I as a wife and mother couldn't imagine cleaning something so large. This is beyond ordinary. Imagine the countless swings of a hammer. The number of 2x4's used to complete this structure. How many buckets of paint were needed to cover the walls. If Sarah's family had not passed away would she of built the house? Maybe she would of lived out her days just as any other normal person. I have lost loved ones in the past, but not from my immediate family. I can't begin to imagine life without my daughter and husband. Perhaps she just couldn't cope with life and buildingthis house was her way of escaping the pain she felt.
