Believe It or Not
I still don't believe in ghost. I think that alot of the things that happen in that house occur for some unknown reason. Perhaps people like making up stories for fun. I don't see how a non living source could unlock doors, or turn lights on, or soak an entire desk. Ghost do not have a bone structure to be able to pick things up or grasp objects. I do however believe that someone told Sarah Winchester to build this house and to keep it going. Sarah was convinced she couldn't go on living without pleasing the spiritual beings. Sarah was possibly in the wrong mind set and just wasn't able to deal with the death of her family. She didn't go see a doctor to see if she had lost her marbles, she just simply was obeying orders from another person. How did the odd floor plan come about? Most women do not have a clue about construction. I think she was just adding here and there so that she would "stay alive". This in the end didn't work out in the long run. Sarah still died. Did Sarah displease her ghost? Was the house built in vain? Rather or not you believe the story behind the house is entirely up to you. I can't say ghost do not exist, because I have no full proof of that. I also cant say they do. I do know that this house is a sight to see, and gives tourist in California something fun to do. I plan to go on a tour one day, maybe I will encounter a glimpse of a ghost or an eary feeling while there. Only then will I be satisfied with the stories told of the never ending Winchester Home.
Escaping Ghost
We now have a little information on her home that she built. Sarah Winchester took to heart what she had been told to do. She was dedicated to her work. Mrs. Winchester truly believed this had to be done. It is said that she lived in peace with the ghost. Sarah's home was architecturally challenging. Every evening Sarah would go to her seance room. To get to this room she would walk quickly through the twisting hallways and interminable rooms. Sarah would then push a button, a panel would fly back and she would step into another apartment. Sarah Winchester would then open a window and climb out, not in the open air, but onto the top of a flight of steps. These steps led her down a level and then back up again to that same level of the house she was just on.(Blanchard). I wouldn't want to do that much walking to get to one room. Sarah felt that she needed to confuse the ghost when going to her seance room. During time frame in her special room she received orders from the spirits on what to build next on the house. Mrs. Winchester was indeed a strange woman.
Hauntings
Are ghost real? There are many pictures and stories of hauntings. A lost soul that has not crossed over yet. Because they have unfinished business or something to that extent. There are endless stories of the ghost at the Winchester House. Under the guidance of ghost, Sarah moved and started construction on the victorian style house. Sarah took part in seances to her husband and other spirits. Sarah had a bell tower added to summon spirits and it would ring again to dismiss them. ( Your Ghost Stories). Sarah was fascinated with the number 13. She had many things in her home equal to thirteen. Stairs often had thirteen steps. Hooks on the walls were made to be a set of thirteen. In your sink you have one drain, but in Sarah Winchester's sink there thirteen. I guess her sink never got clogged. Employees of the home have locked doors, set the alarm system only to turn around and find doors unlocked. One night as a worker closed up and left, the next morning he came to work to find his desk soaked with water. The other surroundings were completely dry. Why would people make things like this up if they didn't have some truth to it. Maybe these situations have a simple explanation.
Floor Plan
Sarah Winchester was a small woman, as mentioned earlier she lived alone. Many people who live alone have a smaller homes. The Winchester home concluded of 160 rooms, including 40 bedrooms, 2 ballrooms one completed and one unfinished. Forty Seven fireplaces, 10,000 window panes, 17 chimneys (with evidence of 2 others), two basements, and three elevators. Winchester's property was about 162 acres at one time, but now the estate is just 4.5 acres. (Wikipedia) I as a wife and mother couldn't imagine cleaning something so large. This is beyond ordinary. Imagine the countless swings of a hammer. The number of 2x4's used to complete this structure. How many buckets of paint were needed to cover the walls. If Sarah's family had not passed away would she of built the house? Maybe she would of lived out her days just as any other normal person. I have lost loved ones in the past, but not from my immediate family. I can't begin to imagine life without my daughter and husband. Perhaps she just couldn't cope with life and buildingthis house was her way of escaping the pain she felt.

Winchester Home
What do you think of when the word house comes to mind? I picture a four bedroom, three bath modest home. I don't think that spending very large, unusual amounts of money for a home would be something to invest in. Homes should be cozy, comfortable, and a place filled with love. I'm not saying if you have a huge house that it is a bad thing. I like to look at larger scale home sites. I've always wanted to go to California to see such a house. The Winchester Home. I imagine it to be old, and filled with history. You can now go on tours there, wonder how long that would take. Some people say that it is haunted. Winchester is a type of riffle, and the house belonged to the widow of Mr. Winchester. Was Sarah Winchester abnormal for building this over sized house? They say she was trying to keep ghost happy, and therefore had to keep building and adding onto her house. She moved west to California, took her inheritance and got started. I myself don't believe in ghost. I've never seen one or felt a presence of one either. Do they exist? Sarah seemed to think so. She lost her baby daughter, and shortly after that her husband died. She went to see a physic, in her time that was normal. So the physic tells her she and her family is cursed because of the lives that their guns had taken. Sounds to me like this physic didn't believe in the rite to bear arms. Maybe that person didn't have any views on the government, or maybe perhaps she was just plain crazy! Either way she tells Sarah to move west and the only way she could save her life was to build a house that would never end. Can you imagine not having a life? Being trapped to a house? Never spending your money for travel, personal things you want, lavish items just for you? Sarah Winchester moved, and started building twenty four hours a day. It never stopped till the day she died. Wait if Sarah was to keep building onto this house to stay alive...why did she die? Could it be because physics are fake? I think that she had mental problems to believe she had to keep ghost happy. Did Sarah truly fear for her life? I would love to go see the Winchester Home when my husband and I take my daughter out to Disney Land. I'm not a superstitious person, but it would be cool to go to a supposed haunted house. Not that I believe in hauntings, but until you experience something you can't throw the idea out the window. I would enjoy seeing antique items, and the unusual, sometimes unexplained structures of the Winchester Home.
